SEARCHING FOR A STAR

During the year groups of young boys and girls from the area have been enjoying golf lessons at Theydon Bois Golf Club. It’s all been part of the ongoing junior golf program run by the Golf School. The objectives are to introduce as many juniors as possible to the game and to search for a young person with the potential to be a star of the future.

The coaching progresses through several levels of achievement which have been designed for juniors aged between 8 – 18 years, this makes the program suitable for both beginners and experienced players. Working in groups is the perfect way to introduce juniors to the game as it allows a number of friends to learn together and encourages competition.

Each lesson begins with a five minute warm up to stretch the range of muscle groups used when swinging the golf club. This is done to prevent injury, to energise the group and to teach each player how to generate maximum power while at the same time controlling the golf club

As the lessons progress each member is encouraged to achieve new skill levels in the five main areas which are required to play the game: putting, chipping, bunker shots, fairway shots and driving. 

Learning how to play at an early age is a great advantage and many of the juniors we have coached have progressed to become excellent players, playing in national amateur events and even building a career within the game. However, golf is not just about playing to a high standard, whatever the level achieved, the attraction of the game is it can be enjoyed by all standards and is truly a game for life.
